Legislators, Policy Makers, and members of the State Board of Education have been invited to hear your ideas regarding public education reform in Ohio.

Public Education Listening Forum

Governor Strickland has recently introduced a comprehensive Education Reform Plan that attempts to address many of the issues plaguing our schools. His reforms call for changes in how we fund our schools, how we test our children and even the amount of time our children spend in school. These are all important decisions that demand community input.

Please join us for a community discussion on what you want for the future of public schools. A short video regarding the changing climate of Ohio schools will be shown followed by an structured discussion of your ideas on education reform. This is a unique opportunity for your voice to be heard by those creating the policies.

Tune In: Ohioans talk with Gov. Strickland about our schools

Over the course of the next two months our Governor will be taking the conversation about how to improve Ohio’s schools to towns around the state, directly soliciting feedback from educators and community members about his vision for reforming the state’s public education system. And you have the opportunity to watch this dialogue in action.

During November and December, Gov. Ted Strickland (D) plans to host six forums around the state to discuss school funding with teachers, students, parents, and members of the business community. These forums will be available for viewing on local PBS affiliates, as well as online and viewing parties will be organized around the state.

Throughout the summer Gov. Strickland held meetings around the state to discuss principles of education reform. Now he wants to talk about how to fund that kind of reform. Be sure to tune in to find out what fellow Ohio residents are saying about the best way to improve our schools and serve our children.

Listening Tour

The purpose of the listening tour is to provide an opportunity to have thoughtfully structured conversations with local people about public education in Ohio. It provides an opportunity to hear from those who are often absent from policy discussions, to assist in framing a remedy for Ohio’s school funding problems. The sessions also serve to raise awareness of the needs in our public schools and build demand for a realistic system that provides educational opportunities to all Ohio children. The listening tour seeks to meet the following goals:

Gather input and concerns from people on education reform and funding to share with the Governor’s office
Provide an opportunity for policymakers to listen to local people
Build common understanding of the challenges facing education, and move toward a shared vision
